We believe in play based learning
There are many different types of play and children need all types to thrive and learn. This includes play that stimulates the development of gross motor muscles and skills, fine motor muscles and skills, cognitive capacity, the imagination, sensory perception skills and social skills. All of these types of play are incorporated into the CDO curriculum at each age level.
Director’s Corner
Welcome to TUMC Children’s Day Out Preschool!
We’re delighted to have you here! CDO is a part-time, play-based, child-centered program rooted in the best practices of early childhood education, designed to serve the families of Tarrytown United Methodist Church and the surrounding community.
At CDO, we believe that play is the essential work of children. Our commitment to a play-based philosophy allows children to build a strong foundation and a lifelong love of learning, free from the distractions of technology and rigorous academic pressures. Each child is cherished and respected for their unique qualities.
We strive to consistently communicate God’s love for every child while supporting their holistic needs through environments crafted by experienced, professional teachers. My goal is to foster transparent communication and encourage family involvement, so together we can nurture kindness, curiosity, and creativity—building a solid groundwork for their bright futures.
We’re excited to partner with you on this wonderful journey!
What our parents are saying
“We were originally encouraged to look at CDO from several other families that had great experiences there. Upon touring, we were drawn to the engaging staff, care for student development both educationally and spiritually, and the philosophy of learning through play. Now, we have been a CDO family for three years and the school has blessed our children and our family more than we could have imagined. It’s been a privilege to watch our children progress developmentally while growing in their understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them. On top of that, they are learning spiritual truths that we pray they will take with them or the rest of their lives. We feel so grateful for our time at CDO and know our children are already building firm foundations for their futures.” - Gauntt Family
“Tarrytown Methodist Children’s Day Out is a gem of a nursery school. Its focus on play-based learning has led my children to grow into kind and compassionate community members as well as instilling in them a passionate love of school. CDO has not only nurtured my children as young babies but also prepared them in the older classes for academic and social rigors of kindergarten and elementary school. We are so grateful to be a part of such a sweet community and will forever treasure the time that our children spent learning and playing at CDO.” -Kate Goldbaum
"Our family loves CDO. We have entrusted our children to their care from the time they were young toddlers through their preschool years. The teachers and staff are truly remarkable; they take the time to know each child and their siblings, and they make an effort to understand the families as a whole. My children absolutely love attending CDO and are always thrilled to see their teachers and classmates. Thank you, CDO, for being so dedicated, caring, and attentive to the needs of every child." -Leslie Padrick
